Upcoming event: Let’s talk: Advocacy for the poles – The role of polar researchers

Come join us for our next Let’s Talk session on polar advocacy on November 27th at 17:00 (CET, Berlin time)! As polar scientists, we are confronted with the reality of climate change, biodiversity loss, and changes in sea ice extent every day. Especially as ECRs, this can be quite tough; it is not unusual to feel a bit hopeless. How can we make sure the public knows about the urgency of this? What options are there for us to turn our worries and fears into tangible change? How does one balance political activism with scientific objectivity?

We have invited a panel of polar scientists who have made it their mission to amplify the voice of the poles. Specifically, we have invited people who do outreach work, political activism (see for instance AWIs4Future), and some that actively bring research to international platforms and organizations as part of their career.

The event will be held in English and will be hosted online. In order to provide a welcoming environment where everybody feels comfortable asking tough questions, we generally do not share recordings from our Let’s Talk Series. For this event, we may share small videos snippets of answers from our individual panelists (with their permission).

Bring your questions and be inspired to make a difference!

Our “Let’s Talk!” seminar series is designed to share experiences, advice and resources, and to provide a casual space for early career scientists to get answers and talk about the things that are on our mind. Every few months we choose a topic and invite experienced panelists to share their story and perspective.
